Celebrating 3 Years of SOFLUX Webinars

July marks the anniversary of the successful SOFLUX webinar series, hosted by the SOOS Southern Ocean Fluxes Capability Working Group. The webinars have been instrumental in enhancing community engagement around Southern Ocean air-sea fluxes and discussing observational requirements to improve our future understanding.

Each webinar features research findings and specific topics presented by emerging talents and leading experts, providing a platform for real-time interaction. Participants can ask questions, join discussions, and offer immediate feedback. To increase accessibility, all webinars are recorded and made available for later viewing on the SOFLUX webinar playlist on the SOOS YouTube Channel, broadening the reach and preserving the content for future reference and on-demand learning.

As we celebrate this milestone, we reflect on the remarkable journey and contributions made over the past three years. The SOFLUX series has hosted a diverse range of topics, drawing in an impressive number of viewers. Here's a glance at some of the highlights:

Key Achievements

  • Total Webinars Hosted: 18

  • Total Participants: over 927 registrations from around the world

  • Knowledge Transfer: 60% of registrations are from early careers

  • Promoting Young Talent: 30% early careers, and 30% mid-careers speakers

  • Broadened the Reach: recordings reached over 2,200 views in total

"The amount of knowledge amongst the speakers and participants is is truly invaluable. These sessions bring together experts from all aspects of Southern Ocean research, creating a unique platform for interdisciplinary learning and collaboration. The diversity of expertise shared has been hugely beneficial for advancing our understanding of the complex interactions in the Southern Ocean and has significantly aided my own interdisciplinary studies in this area." – Assoc. Prof. Lennart Bach

We are immensely grateful for the community's enthusiasm and support thus far and eagerly look forward to many more insightful discussions.
