SOOS Symposium 2027: The Southern Ocean community comes together again:

Following the success of the inaugural SOOS Symposium in 2023, the SOOS Symposium returns in 2027, bringing the international Southern Ocean community together in Naples, Italy, from 6–10 September 2027 (side meetings and associated events expected to take place around the symposium will be scheduled between 4–11 September 2027).

Hosted by the University of Naples Parthenope and Marche Polytechnic University, the symposium will bring together 400–500 participants from across the Southern Ocean community, including researchers, industry, policy-makers and operational stakeholders.

The symposium will provide a major forum to share knowledge, strengthen connections, and advance collaboration and coordination around Southern Ocean observations. It will also contribute to major international initiatives and efforts, including SYNCHRONY, Antarctica InSync, the UN Decade of Ocean Science, the UN Decade of Cryospheric Sciences, and preparations for the 5th International Polar Year 2032–33.

More information will be coming soon, so please keep an eye out for session proposals, abstract call, & registration information on this page, the SOOS social media channels (#SOOSSymposium2027), or by signing up for the SOOS Symposium 2027 mailing list.

We look forward to seeing you in Naples in September 2027!
