OSD Mini-workshop series
The SOOS Observing System Design (OSD) Capability Working Group launched a series of online mini-workshops. The mini-workshops will be held monthly leading up to the SOOS Symposium in August 2023.
These short workshops will feature short scene-setting talks and plenary discussions open to all attendees, as well as informal chat sessions hosted by the OSD leadership team.
Register in advance, to see the suggested pre-reads, and check out some potential discussion questions.
Next Mini-Workshop
"Environmental Sensor Placement with Convolutional Gaussian Neural Processes"
With a scene-setting talk by Tom Andersson
29th March 2023 at 9:00 PDT
Register here...
Discussion points:
-
What are the similarities and differences between machine learning (ML) sensor placement approaches and process-based observing system planning approaches?
-
What are the benefits of the ConvGNP over previous machine learning models?
-
How could the ConvGNP be applied to ocean variables and benefit the SOOS community?
-
How could a ConvGNP sensor placement approach be joined up with other observing system planning procedures? What might this look like in practice for SOOS?
