Data Sessions at the SOOS Symposium 2023

The SOOS Symposium 2023 is just around the corner. SOOS, the SOOS Data Management Sub-Committee (DMSC) and others have prepared an abundance of data related sessions and workshops for Southern Ocean data enthusiasts and those who want to be.
See what the SOOS Symposium has in store for you and when it is happening:
- Plenary Session: "Data Systems", Speaker: Vito Vitale (CNR Institute of Polar Sciences - ISP, Bologna), Grand Ballroom, Tuesday 15.08. at 16:00 - 17:00
Vito Vitale is Research Director at the CNR Institute of Polar Sciences (ISP) in Bologna. He has been involved in polar research and management since 1986, both in Antarctica and in the Arctic. He is an expert of radiative transfer processes into the atmosphere.
- Workshop: "How to in SOOSmap", Grand Ballroom 1, Monday 14.08. at 14:45 - 15:30, and Grand Ballroom 3, Thursday 17.08. at 16:15 - 17:00
SOOSmap is a portal for well-curated and standardised datasets of key circumpolar interest. Familiarise yourself with the portal, get tips on how to use its features, how to discover data and how to share new data products with SOOSmap.
- Workshop: "DueSouth/Polardex", Grand Ballroom 1, Tuesday 15.08. at 15:15 - 15:30, and Grand Ballroom 3, Thursday 17.08. at 17:00 - 17:30-17:45
DueSouth provides the logistical plans for upcoming expeditions to the Southern Ocean within Polardex (an online platform for polar infrastructure and logistics discovery & planning developed by the European Polar Board in collaboration with SOOS). Familiarise yourself with Polardex/DueSouth, find out how you can find potential collaborators for fieldwork and how to share information with the polar community.
-
Workshop: "Creating impact for your observational data beyond research", Monday 14.08. at 11:00-12:30 and 13:30-14:45
The workshop will provide an opportunity for EMCRs to learn, share and network across a parallel workshop centered around the theme “What can you do with observational data?”. The workshop will provide EMCRs training and resources on how researchers can incorporate observational data into all aspects of their research and communication so that it has global visibility and impact to stakeholders.
- Workshop: "Data Surgery", Grand Ballroom 3, Thursday 17.08. at 17:00 - 17:30
Are you using scientific data in your research and struggling to find the data you need? Are you unsure how to handle your data or need some advice on how to best share your data? A friendly team of data professionals from a number of data centres and data programmes with data management expertise will be happy to brainstorm a solution with you.
- "Data Helpdesk" available full day on Wednesday 16.08.
Stop by our help desk and meet our friendly team of data professionals from a number of data centres and data programmes to discuss finding the data you need, how to handle your own data and how to share your data.
