Ross Sea RWG Announces New APECS Representative

The Ross Sea Regional Working Group (RWG) warmly welcomes Alena Malyarenko as new APECS Representative within their leadership team.
Dr Alena Malyarenko is a Research Fellow at Te Kura Aronukurangi School of Earth and Environment, Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha University of Canterbury, Ōtautahi Christchurch, Aotearoa New Zealand. Their research includes ice shelf-ocean interaction, ice-ocean boundary layer structure, coupled atmosphere-ice-ocean modelling and observations.
Alena developed a coupled regional model for the Ross Sea within the Antarctic Science Platform Modelling Hub together with the atmosphere researcher Dr Alexandra Gossart. P-SKRIPS is the first high-resolution model that encompasses atmosphere, sea ice, ocean and ice shelf cavities and conserves heat and mass fluxes between the components. They are now using the model to understand the possible states of the Ross Sea in present, past and future.
