New SOOS Science and Communications Officer

SOOS is very pleased to welcome our new IPO team member, Dr Julia Bach. She will take over the role as Science and Communications Officer, which Alyce Hancock left to step up as SOOS’ new EO.
Julia Bach already gained many years of experience in managing communications at her former job as a product manager for the pharmaceutical company Nordmark Pharma.
As a scientist, Julia has been working as a researcher for the University of Kiel in Germany, where she also completed her PhD on the molecular evolution of the immune system in blue mussels in 2013. Prior to that she worked for the GEOMAR in Kiel, Germany, and the AWI in Bremerhaven, Germany, investigating the effects of climate change on marine organisms.
Since beginning 2021 she is also studying Project Management in part time at Monarch Institute.
Coming originally from Germany, she moved to Tasmania in 2019, where she currently enjoys living by the sea with her husband and her two small kids.
Julia is looking forward to working with all of you!
