SOOS DMSC Welcomes New Co-chair

The SOOS Data Management Sub-Committee (DMSC) announces with great pleasure that Antonio Novellino will be joining the DMSC as new Co-chair. Antonio will replace Francesco Misurale, who had been in this postion since October 2023 and, unfortunately, moved on to a new position outside of the Southern Ocean community. Antonio Novellino stepped forward and has been approved by both the DMSC and EXCOM as a Co-Chair and appointed in March 2024. We warmly welcome Antonio and are excited to be working with him on all things Southern Ocean data.
Antonio Novellino has a PhD in Biotechnology and Bioengineering, an MSc in Biomedical Engineering, is Research Manager at ETT SpA Gruppo SCAI, and CEO at SINDBAD Scarl. Antonio is an expert in data and information system management, WebGIS, decisional support systems, data interoperability standards (OpenDAP, THREDDS, ERDDAP, etc). He is a member of the EuroGOOS DATAMEQ group and contributes to EuroGOOS Task Teams for advising EuroGOOS on operational oceanography data management procedures and standards. Antonio serves on the EMODnet Steering Committee, the EMODnet Technical Working Group and is also member of the DOOS DMTT (Deep Ocean Observing System Data Management Technical Team). Antonio is the EMODnet Physics coordinator and CMEMS DU deputy coordinator (EMODnet and CMEMS are key European Commission environmental monitoring programs). He leads activities in data ingestion and data management activities in EU projects in the field of oceanography and marine data collection. He is co-author in scientific publications and he participates as reviewer for scientific journals and initiatives.
