New Leadership Team Member Welcomed by Southern Ocean Indian Sector (SOIS) Working Group

The Southern Ocean Indian Sector (SOIS) Regional Working Group (RWG) is delighted to have Kohei Mizobata joining the leadership team. Kohei joins SOIS co-chairs Sarat Chandra Tripathy and Elizabeth Shadwick, as well as the rest of the SOIS leadership team in implementing the SOOS activities in the Southern Ocean Indian sector in accordance with the SOOS Science and Implementation Plan. As Kohei will be replacing Takeshi Tamura, the group would like to thank Takeshi for his commitment to the working group and wish him all the best for the future.
Dr Kohei Mizobata is a satellite oceanographer and a physical oceanographer at the Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology (TUMSAT) in Tokyo. In 2005, he completed his doctorate at the Hokkaido University on the impacts of mesoscale eddy field on primary production in the Bering Sea. After his doctorate, he spent two years and half at the International Arctic Research Center (IARC), University of Alaska Fairbanks, as a member of the Arctic Modeling Group.
Kohei is also a member of the Science Team for JAXA's Satellite Microwave Radiometer (AMSR series). He has conducted Arctic Ocean observations aboard the T/S Oshoro Maru (Hokkaido University), R/V Mirai (JAMSTEC), and the Canadian icebreakers, and has conducted Southern Ocean observations aboard TUMSAT's Umitaka-Maru almost every year since 2015.
He is leading the SOOS-endorsed program, HEAT-CROSS (The Heart of the East AnTarctic CRyosphere-Ocean Synergy System; 2022-2028).
