Antarctica InSync: Community Updates and Next Steps

Image

We are pleased to share the latest updates from our partner Antarctica InSync and ongoing activities across the community.

Updates

The Antarctica InSync White Papers are currently in the editing process and will soon be published on our website with assigned DOIs, making them easily accessible and citable for the wider community.

In order to strengthen exchange within the community, dedicated email addresses have now been established for each Scientific Theme. We warmly encourage anyone interested in contributing to get in touch and engage with the respective theme.

At the same time, work on the Antarctica InSync Science Plan is actively progressing, with contributions from across the community helping to shape its development. In 2026, the main focus of the programme is shifting towards logistical planning and implementation, building on the scientific foundations established in the previous phase.

A list of Antarctica InSync Working Groups has also been implemented on our website, providing an overview of ongoing activities. We warmly encourage the community to explore these Working Group proposals and to connect directly with their convenors. New Working Group proposals are welcome and can be submitted at any time, supporting the continued expansion and coordination of the community

For the Scientific Steering Board, Alyce Hancock and Keyhong Park have been nominated as representatives of SOOS, strengthening the connection to the Southern Ocean observing community.

Events and Conferences

Antarctica InSync will be actively represented at several key international meetings and conferences in 2026. These include the COMNAP Annual General Meeting, held from 4–6 August 2026 in Tromsø, and the SCAR Open Science Conference, taking place from 8–19 August 2026 in Oslo.

We are also planning a webinar to mark the start of the implementation phase of Antarctica InSync. The event, in collaboration with our partner the European Space Agency (ESA), will take part on two dates: Tuesday, 30 June, and Wednesday, 1 July, to accommodate participants across different time zones. This webinar will offer further insights into current activities and opportunities for engagement. The exact schedule and agenda will be confirmed soon—please stay tuned to our website and social media channels for updates.

In addition, Antarctica InSync, in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA), will host an Implementation Workshop in person from 10–13 November 2026 in Frascati-Italy, providing an important platform for coordination and future planning.

Antarctica InSync is looking forward to continuing their collaboration with SOOS and will share further updates with our community soon.
